About Smith Mountain Lake

Smith Mountain Lake is a 20,600-acre reservoir in Virginia, completed in 1963, managed by Appalachian Power. Live water-level readings are scraped from AEP Hydro on a regular schedule. Public launches include Oak Grove Boat Access, Hardy Ford Boat Access, and Penhook #9 Boat Access. Active sailing clubs include Virginia Inland Sailing Association (VISA), Blackwater Yacht Racing Association (BYRA), and Smith Mountain Lake Sailing School & Charters.
